About Northhouse
A Destination for Celebration, Gathering, and Memory
Nestled on Main Street in the heart of Tonawanda, Northhouse is a reimagined multi-use venue that brings new life to a character-filled building. Designed to inspire connection and elevate experience, Northhouse is home to three unique offerings under one thoughtfully restored roof:
Northhouse, a 5,000-square-foot venue designed for unforgettable moments featuring a soaring 35-foot ceiling, original period details, and bespoke chandeliers. At its heart stands a dramatic oversized archway — a signature architectural element that welcomes guests with grandeur and frames every entrance like a scene from a classic film. Our open-plan event space adapts seamlessly to weddings, galas, corporate functions, and community gatherings.
The Event Space
Tucked away behind an unassuming entrance lies our vintage-inspired cocktail lounge. With moody lighting, classic cocktails, shareable small plates, and intimate seating, The Third Door at Northhouse is a hidden haven for conversation, celebration, and curated nightlife.
The Speakeasy
Stay above the rest upstairs in one of our nine thoughtfully designed overnight suites that offer modern comfort and timeless charm. Whether you're a guest of the venue or just passing through, our boutique accommodations provide a peaceful retreat with local character.

Our History
Originally built in 1884 as a roller rink, this iconic structure quickly transformed into the Academy of Music—a grand venue for theatrical and musical performances that once welcomed up to 1,200 guests. Over the decades, it became a cornerstone of Tonawanda’s civic and cultural life, serving as a gathering space for the 25th Separate National Guard, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the City of Tonawanda, and the American Legion.
Now, as the Erie Canal celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2025, Northhouse is embracing this moment of reflection and revival through a thoughtful and extensive renovation. We are proud to return this storied building to its roots as a place for celebration and meaningful connection.
Our Vision
Northhouse was created with a belief in the power of place. We aim to be more than a venue—we're a community anchor, a design-driven experience, and a celebration of architectural legacy.
Founded by designer and developer Rachel Aspland, a London native now rooted in Western New York, Northhouse blends bold aesthetics with the soul of restoration. Every detail has been curated to preserve the spirit of the building while creating a space that welcomes new stories.
